Gene Simmons Hates on Hip-Hop

Kiss bassist/ groupie slayer Gene Simmons recent turned his sinister tongue on music's current crop of rappers. In an exclusive interview with allhiphop.com, Simmons said he said he'd "like to hear a rapper who can really speak English exceedingly well and... doesn't make up his own language." Ouch! Wonder what flew up his dragon-scale skirt.

I don't believe Gene is being racist, not at all. Like others have posted here, he is simply saying rap needs a new angle. Really, how many "look how tough I am, I'm the best rapper, I'll kick your ass, coming up form the hood up to no good...." acts do you need. It's all a lame cliche. The same goes for pop and heavy music. It,s all lame. Every song on radio and MTV has the same formula verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus fade to next lame song. Rap and Rock, if I didn't make it clear, are both guilty of this. Major labels are only concerned with current style, image and catchy hooks. It has very little to do musical talent. It is certainly not innovative and generates absolutely no atmosphere.

If ones wants to find good music, whether its rap, rock, metal etc, one has to go "underground".
The best music out there is stuff you will never hear on radio and never see on tv.

Thanks for addressing this topic. Much more needs to be said and done.
What drives the Hip Hop industry? Greed--pure and simple…and destructive. Unfortunately, the record producers and their stable of artists are amoral when it comes to making money. So much that is screwed-up in our country is due to greed and those of us who patronize it. One courageous African-American broadcaster has taken a stand. Many more must do so. i think the comment that gene simmons said, really should not of been said because it starts a diverse arguement, so either he was just trying to get some attention or he got tired of sticking his tongue out 30 inches to the floor. Music is part of life, rap, rock, country, etc...but i hate rock..i dont go around talking about it like damn i hate rock so much. I got better things to do then hate on other peoples way of livings. Anyways there is talent an anything that u do, just got to be successfull in it and take it further in life thats all....so stop hating thats all......thanks

Understand, music is melody and sometimes (most times) rhythmic melody. Its always gonna be a thing of opinion. And sampling isn't ripping off other peoples work, Those people allow it, its called "sample clearance". If anything its an ode to the originators work. And when A Rock band does "cover songs" which most rock bands do. is that also "ripping off"? If you don't like hip hop, don't buy it. its most likely not for u anyway. Ps. Whos to say Screaming @ the very top of ur lungs with no melody @ all is music? And all rap isn't based on sex drugs and violence... Rock talks about the same thing many times and noone complains.

Listen point blank rap and hip hop don't suck. Some rap music is annoying believe me, I'm a true fan of hip hop, but not all of their music I'm crazy about. But if you listen to an artist like Nas, Tupac, or Kanye West you will understand what they are talking about. Don't criticize all of the rap game. I'm not just a rap fan, I love rock too, and it's funni becuz the people always complaining about hip hop are either the ones who listen to rock or don't care to even try to listen to it. No one's complaining about rock, when most of you heavy metal singers onli talk about the devil and crap. Hey if you don't like hip hop don't listen to it, don't complain bout it cuz no one's complainin bout rock.

It makes no sense to tear down someone else's culture because of what they are accustomed to. Rock is rock to those who like it. Rap is rap to those who listen to it. It's very amusing that some of you can put your ignorant self out there and demean another race because of music. God will deal with everyone accordingly, no one gave any of us right to be Judge and jury. You have no Heaven, nor Hell to put any one in. Save your own souls.
You want to talk about history and belittle black people, but let's remember, the term 'ghetto' has orgins that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the Black race. (For you "brainiacs" it pertained to Jews (WHITE JEWS) during the Holocaust era.) Grow up people. Grow up America.
Final thought. Black people MUST be alot smarter than you give them credit for. Because I am willing to put up alot of money to prove that the ignorant comments towards different races come from people that are (dare I say) middle class people. These Hip-Hop moguls are at the top of their respective companies and/ or record labels. How many of you can say that they sign their own checks? I can. I also sign my employees checks. A sucessful and educated BLACK man.
Do you realize that the Black people as a race has invented more things and has had their hand in more things than white people. From Ice Cream (that whites just adore! Didn't know a black man invented that did you?) Down to I would say THE most racist sport, Golf (which a BLACK man invented the tee). The list goes on and on. Indulge me if you will. The traffic light, peanut butter, hair products, the gas mask, air conditioning, co-inventing the PC (that most of you used to say cruel and ignorant things about blacks), the ironing board, adhesives, bleach, chili sauce, ink, instant coffee, linoleum, mayonnaise, paper, plastic, pavement, shaving cream, talcum powder, the Super Soaker. Everyday items that you ignorant people knew NOTHING about (yet expand the pockets of said inventions/inventors due to your lack of knowledge, amusing).
Ah, the beauty of it all. Like I mentioned before, grow up America. Life is very short and remember, God won't place you in heaven for being racist. Love thy brother. It may be one of those 'rats, monkeys, coons, apes' or what have you, that saves your life tomorrow, signs your checks. And in the end, there WILL be for sure. A non-partial GOD that you WILL answer to. Until next time, be blessed.

I'm from the old school, when hip hop was original and meant more than bling, birds and bitches. Nas said it best..."Hip-Hop is dead!"

Regaurdless of how you feel about rap music, whether you like it or not, you shouldn't judge a whole industry based on the fact that you've heard 1 or 2 rap songs...If you don't like it turn from it or roll your windows up so you don't hear it...Trust, we rap fans hate rock just as much and you dont see us blogging the hell out of their articles now do you?

I\'m just me

Yames, it's PROSTELYZE!! You might want to look in the mirror before you judge others on their VERBAGE. Reading your blog is hilarious, to say the least. Your ignorance is definitely bliss. The words you use to detest hip-hop are the same words they use to express themselves in their lyrics, and you have the AUDACITY to think you're superior over them?? You speak of their promotions of violence, hatred and bigotry, yet your blog promotes the same. Whether you like it or not, you(and some others listed in this blog) are participants in this unending cycle of DEGRADATION and unhealthy PROPAGANDA that promote violence, hatred and bigotry. Like many genres of music, hip-hop has its share likes and dislikes. However, I don't let the negatives aspects of it define me or confine me the way you have. Do me a favor and get a grasp on life. READ the article before you disrespect its content by MISCONSTRUDING the message. Gene Simmons is promoting more diversity for hip-hop...not tearing it down.

*By the way, all of those words in capital letters are a few of the many words that are a part of my vocabulary. I understand its meaning and its usage. Oh yeah, I like hip-hop too.
