While rapper Shyne sits in a cell at the Woodburne Correctional facility in Woodburne, New York, his father, Dean Barrow, was elected as the first Black prime minister of Belize on Friday. Barrow takes the torch from the Central American country's former Palestinian-born prime minister Said Musa. Musa served as the Belize's faithful leader for the past 10 years.
Shyne, whose real name is Jamal Barrow, was convicted of weapons possession, first-degree assault and reckless endangerment in 2001, in connection with the infamous 1999 shooting involving Sean "Diddy" Combs and the mogul's then girlfriend, Jennifer Lopez, at the once-trendy Club New York. Barrow continues to serve his 10-year prison sentence.
