Lauryn Hill to Portray Rita Marley in Upcoming Biopic?

In a recent interview, reggae legend Bob Marley's widow, Rita Marley, discussed plans for the first-ever big-screen biopic of her late husband, mentioning that she hopes to have Marley's daughter-in-law, '90s sensation-turned-recluse Lauryn Hill, portray her in the film.

"Lauryn would be ideal [to play me]," Rita Marley told Billboard. "She sees my life as her life."

The film adaptation of Rita Marley's 2004 autobiography 'No Woman No Cry: My Life With Bob Marley' is currently being written by Lizzie Borden ('Working Girls'), with production set to begin early next year. The film's producer Rudy Langlais hopes to release the "epic romance" by late 2009.

In other Marley news, Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese is working on a documentary based on the singer's life. The as-yet-untitled project is set for release on what would have been Marley's 65th birthday, February 6, 2010.
