Solange Knowles is more commonly known as the little sister to R&B diva Beyonce, but Solange is looking to make a name for herself with her upcoming album, 'Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams.' The album is a "tribute to having a vision," the songstress explained to the BoomBox during an intimate sneak preview of her new project. The singer goes on to explain that Hadley Street is a popular block in her hometown of Houston. The street is also the home to her father/manager Mathew Knowles' compound. "No one believed in him," Solange confessed while discussing her father's dream to build a studio in the center of this once-rundown neighborhood.
And, like her father, Solange admits she faced some challenges while when attempting to snag producers and recording artists for her "dream" project. "People don't expect that because of the association," Solange said without directly mentioning her famous sis. The singer did manage to corral Cee-Lo after running into the eclectic rapper/producer in a nightclub, and Q-Tip, Bilal and Pharrell Williams contribute to the '60s and '70s Motown-influenced album.
"If the Supremes, Marvelettes and Dusty Springfield did a record that's how it would sound," Solange explained of the "electronic soul" album, which will feature a track written by Motown's own Lamont Dozier of the songwriting-production team Holland-Dozier-Holland, who penned hits for the Supremes, Martha & the Vandellas and Four Tops.
Solange is scheduled to film the video for the album's first single, 'I Decided,' next week. 'Sol-Angel' is due in stores August 26.
