Who says people don't buy CDs anymore? And who said you can't survive a leak and heavy bootlegging? Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter III' has proven that fans will go out and purchase your album, even if they've heard 80% of the record on the radio and the internet.According to Nielsen SoundScan via Billboard Magazine, the New Orleans-bred emcee's new album sold 423,000 copies on its first day. This puts the rapper on pace to sell close to a million records its first week, which would be the year's highest album sales, topping superstars Madonna and Mariah Carey. Before Wayne, Carey's E=MC2 was the year's top-seller with approximately 463,000 albums sold.
If 'Tha Carter III' sells a million albums by Tuesday, it'll have surpassed Kanye West's Grammy award-winning third album, 'Graduation,' which sold a whopping 957,000 in its first week on the shelves.
