Jay-Z teamed with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg yesterday to announce the new Summer Streets program, which will transform select city streets into car-free recreation zones. The pilot program, which begins this weekend, will close off seven miles of city blocks from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park. The initiative hopes to encourage New Yorkers and tourists to bike and/or walk through the city. "Streets that are normally tied up with cars and trucks will be turned over to the public - so that we can experience this city as never before," Bloomberg said during the press conference. The mayor captured some cool points, not only with fans of Summer Streets, but with fans of the hip-hop mogul. As Jay-Z answered a reporter's question, which was prefaced by a reference to one of the rapper's songs, Bloomberg interjected and gave the title of the track. "This is from 'Mother I Made It?" Bloomberg asked. And the mayor was correct. Way to go Bloomberg!
