Fat Joe Calls Daddy Yankee a 'Sellout' for Supporting John McCain

Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama has garnered a ton of support from celebrities and musicians, especially the hip-hop community, so it was a little jarring to hear that Puerto Rican rapper Daddy Yankee was backing Republican Sen. John McCain. The Reggaeton rapper appeared at a Phoenix high school to offer his official endorsement. "I believe in his ideals and his proposals to lead this nation," Yankee said. "He's been a fighter for the Hispanic community." Yankee's endorsement sparked fellow Puerto Rican MC Fat Joe's response.

"Put this in the MTV News headline: 'Fat Joe Says Daddy Yankee Is a Sellout,' " Joe told MTV via phone from Denver, where he's attending the Democratic National Convention. "Just like that! I gotta go in. I'm talking to little cousins that like [Yankee] and all that, and they're starting to believe that John McCain is [the best candidate]. I can't have that."

Joe went on to say that he's sickened by Yankee's actions and feels that it's a publicity stunt. "The reason why I called him a sellout is because I feel he did that for a [publicity] look, rather than the issues that are affecting his people that look up to him," Joe explained. "How could you want John McCain in office when George Bush and the Republicans already have half a million people losing their homes in foreclosure? We're fighting an unjust war. It's the Latinos and black kids up in the frontlines, fighting that war. ... We over here trying to take the troops out of Iraq and bring peace. This guy immediately wants war. If not with Iraq or Afghanistan, he'll start a new one with Iran. I feel real disgusted that Daddy Yankee would do that. Either he did that for a look, or he's just not educated on politics."

I am always amazed when people start spouting off ignorant comments. Fat Joe, and many others like him, are upset that someone expresses their American right to choose who they vote for, and are a sellout for doing so. Look, anyone who believes that there will be streets lined with money, and everyone will wine and roses just because Obama as president is severely misguided in their thinking. Obama is a very eloquent speaker, but, to date, has not described in any substantive detail what "change" he plans to make. Further, anything he has put out there have absolutely no real benefit to the minority communities, or have no way of making it through the system we have in place today. We need to make politics less about the popularity or who your favorite actor/singer is voting for and become informed individuals. As a Latino, I always counsel ALL young people to understand the process, learn about the system, and vote based on issues, not because the candidate promises things that they can never deliver, due to all the special interest, big money lobbies and the overall hand slapping, under the table things that go on in politics. Become informed! If you are waiting for the government to "save" you, I would not hold my breath. Work within your communities to make a difference. Become mentors to all those young minorities that have no one to turn to. That is where we can make a difference.

Are you really serious? Someone needs to brush up on United States policies. He is from Puerto Rico....and yes he is an American citizen. I love this country....a country that truely allows freedom of speech without taking into consideration one's educational background....true equality!

Honest question...is Yankee even an American citizen? If he is not then this is irrelevant. If he is then he needs to reevaluate his values and what he wants his kids to inherit. he doesn't have "old money" and once his money is gone, he will see what Mccain and company really care about

Fat Joe is obviously entitled to his opinions as are the rest of the cry babies who have posted. I say this because how can one blame the government for a private choice as purchasing a home. Those who want Obama for president plainly do not hold their private life as important and need the government to hold their hands. I am an American who can also be pigeon holed as Latina. I am also registered Independent. Just because your last name happens to be Hispanic does not mean your political affiliation must be Democaca. If you must live in the past than why should you align yourself with party that helped enslaves African-Americans? Ever heard of the Dixiecrats? It was the Republicans that helped end slavery. And they were the first party to have an African-American on their party's roll call for President of the United States... Frederick Douglas!

Fat Joe is the sellout! Let's see him stand up to all the rich "white men" whose money allowed him to be a so called musician.

Obaa(ma)….the follower’s choice for president.
