Ice Cube to Pen Police Comedy for NBC

Rapper/actor Ice Cube will take his acting skills to the small screen in an upcoming police comedy for NBC. "As we continue to expand our roster of diverse talent bothon-camera and behind the camera, a guy like Ice Cube, whose multi-talented, is someone we really wanted to be in business with,' NBC entertainment chairman Ben Silverman said in an interview. "He's had an amazing career, to have gone from N.W.A. to this."

According to reports, Cube will write and produce the as-yet-untitled sitcom. Though the show's exact premise and premiere date has not been released, its goal is to introduce a new flavor to help the network compete with current television ratings.

Although Cube's role in the show's development will be behind the scenes, Silverman does not object to the rapper/actor showing up onscreen. "We really want to capture his voice and his eye for talent, and his producing acumen,' Silverman said. 'If he appeared in the pilot or series, we'd be really excited about that."

Cube's acting chops include 'The Longshots' released this year and the popular movies 'Are We There Yet?' 'Barbershop' and the 'Friday' movie trilogies. While as a producer he worked on 'Black White' on FX and Showtime's 'Barbershop' series. Also an accomplished rapper, Cube's latest album 'Raw Footage' was released this past summer.
