Kanye West Announces He Wants to Be Elvis at AMAs

Kanye West left a lasting impression on the American Music Awards audience last night by proclaiming that he wants to be Elvis Presley. The rapper won for both "Favorite Male Rap/Hip-Hop Artist" and "Favorite Rap/Hip-Hp Album" for his third album 'Graduation.'

"I'd like to thank everyone who accepted me trying to break new boundaries in music," he said as he picked up his first American Music Award. "They say in any other industry you're supposed to do better than the past ... but when you say, 'I want to be Elvis,' they say, 'what's wrong with you?' Well, I wanna be Elvis."

Upon winning his second award, West dedicated it to Lil Wayne whom he beat in the category. West stated that this year belonged to Wayne, who released the double platinum album 'The Carter III' earlier this year. His acceptance speech was a humble departure from his more candid response to losing in the 'Favorite Breakthrough Artist' category in 2004. West vowed to never attend the awards show again after being "snubbed." His new album '808s and Heartbreak' is in stores now.

Among other big winners were Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and Chris Brown, who snagged the coveted 'Artist of the Year' award.

Kanye has the ability to think above and beyond... & In case it wasn't apparent- he does not want to be "Elvis" literally, he wants the legendary status of Elvis. And if you give him the same number of years that Elvis had to prove himself you might see it what he's talking about.
