It's been 24 years since pioneering rap act Run-DMC declared themselves the Kings of Rock. Now, living members Joey "Run" Simmons, commonly known as Rev. Run, and Darryl "DMC" McDaniels will rock out once again when they're inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 4."I'm a rap dude, I'm an MC from Hollis (a neighborhood in New York's borough of Queens), just rockin' the mic, and to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with the Beatles, and (Bob) Dylan, and the rock 'n' roll gods? It's ridiculous! Ridiculous in a good way," McDaniels said in an interview.
Run, DMC and the late Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell introduced rap to the masses with the commercial success of their 1986 album, 'Raising Hell,' which spawned the hits 'My A.D.I.D.A.S.,' 'It's Tricky' and 'Walk This Way,' featuring Aerosmith. Fellow pioneers Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five made hip-hop history when they were inducted in 2007, marking the first time a rap act was enshrined in the HOF.
The veteran rappers will join fellow inductees Metallica, Jeff Beck, Little Anthony and the Imperials, and Bobby Womack as this year's inductees for the Rock and Roll HOF. This year's ceremony which is returning to Cleveland after a 12 year absence, will be open to the public for the first time. The ceremony is also set to air on Fuse TV.
