Lil Wayne to Release Rock Album in April

If you didn't think Lil Wayne was serious about taking a walk on the loud side and releasing a rock-infused album ...believe it. The New Orleans native and current king of the radio is set to release his first foray into rock when he releases 'Rebirth' on April 7.

While on tour Wayne hinted at the new album before releasing official information. "This is something brand new, so we don't want it to be some experimental thing. [Because] some people are not [going to] like this, I don't want them to not like Tha Carter IV," he said. "I do have an album coming soon, very soon, and it's [going to] be called Tha Carter III: The Rebirth. The birth of a new beginning."

Although it was originally believed that Wayne would offer a new version of his double platinum selling album, 'Tha Carter III,' this new project marks his first genre bending cross-over effort. According to Wayne's reps 'Rebirth' has nothing to do with his previous hip-hop albums.

Wayne will also sit down with anchorwoman Katie Couric for a CBS news special leading up to the Grammys. The special takes a look at Grammy nominated artist, both past and present, including John Legend, Justin Timberlake and Ne-Yo.

As far as Grammy nods go, Wayne is the ringleader with eight. He will also perform on the show, which airs Feb. 8 on the same network.

'Prom Queen,' the first single off his upcoming project, will be available for digital download following a live stream of his concert in San Diego on Jan. 27.
