Jennifer Hudson Pre-Records National Anthem for Super Bowl Performance

For the over 90 million people who tuned in to the Super Bowl this past weekend watching Jennifer Hudson's first public performance in months was as anticipated as the commercials.

The singer did not disappoint by passionately belting out the words of the National anthem, but later it was revealed that the performance was pre-recorded.

According to the show's producer Ricky Minor, who is also the music director for 'American Idol,' Hudson lip-synched per his request.

"This was such an important performance, because it's the first time everyone has seen Jennifer. But she's in such a great place, with such great spirits, and time can heal her wounds," he said. "She's on fire right now and totally grounded." Following her performance Hudson received a text from her 'Dreamgirls' co-star Jamie Foxx that read "Amazing. It brought tears to my eyes."

On the big day, he also requested that singer Faith Hill, who performed right before Hudson pre-record her rendition of 'America the Beautiful' as well. "There's too many variables to go live. I would never recommend any artist go live, because the slightest glitch would devastate the performance."

A long time producer, Minor is also the man behind Whitney Houston's 1991 Super Bowl performance of the anthem.

Hudson, who has been in seclusion following the brutal murders of her mother, brother and nephew in October, is slowly getting back to work. The Oscar winner recently shot the video for her second single, 'If It Isn't Love' in Los Angeles. She will also perform at the MusiCares event this week and will attend the Grammy's on Sunday. Her self-titled debut release is up for four nominations.

Jennifer Hudson did a wonderful job, for all the haters buy a clue! It was her singing the anthem, who cares it was prerecorded, it should have been, you try singing live in a stadim with thousands! I loved her performance-great job Jen and congrats for being so brave after suffering such a great loss, my prayers are with you!

See how biased the media is. The headline reads "Jennifer Hudson Pre-Records National Anthem for Super Bowl Performance." Then when you read the WHOLE story, it says Faith Hill ALSO pre-recorded her performance. Why did the headline focus in on only one performer. OOPS. I forgot where I was for a moment. This is "America the Beautiful!" Yeah, right! And to the person who compared Jennifer to Milli Vanilli, there IS no comparison. Jennifer CAN and DOES sing LIVE and does it extremely well. So what that she and Faith were asked to lip-sync. And by the way, according to the story, they were both ASKED to do so by the show producer. And like the rest of us on a job, they did as they were told. But really, who cares?

Lord, Lord, Lord! Performers have lip-synced in stadium performances for years. The reverb and the sound delay causes a lot of problems. Does anyone doubt that it was actually Jennifer Hudson's voice? I say BFD and GET OVER IT!!! Now, however, when people like Brit Spears, Janet Jackson, and Madonna lip-sync it is because those people are not really singers--they are PERFORMERS--like monkeys--they are processed products of the recording studio. OK Madonna's singing was passable (i.e. not horrible) on the Dick Tracy and Evita soundtracks--those are the times when she actually had to "sing." Spears did her best "singing" on Star Search when she was a pre-teen--it's been downhill from there.

Sorry, but she could not come CLOSE to singing that rendition live...A studio can make a tone deaf singer sound fantastic...So it's nothing more then another Ashley Simpson SNL moment...She is a fraud plain and simple and so is Faith Hill...you have to love how Jenny was breathing so heavy when she finished as if she just belted it out LIVE...all an act...wake up people and stop letting the suits dictate who you should spend your money on.

Who cares if it was pre-recorded? I thought she did a beautiful job. It was still her singing and it took a lot of courage for her to get out there after what she's gone through. Half the artists out there pre-record a lot more than we think, I'm sure.

IF YALL DIDNT KNOW THAT ALL THE SUPERBOWL PERFORMANCES ARE PRE-RECORDED SHE HAS NOT BEEN THE FIRST AND WONT BE THE LAST. CAN YALL FIND SOMETHING THAT MATTERS TO TALK ABOUT.

Stop criticizing Jennifer Hudson! The technical issues of singing in a huge venue like that makes it VERY difficult to nearly impossible for a singer to stay in sync with the playback coming from the speakers and the singer's monitor. The monitor is closest to the singer, and they hear one thing - then the big speakers farther away carry the sound to the singer's ear about a second later - long enough to get off of the music.
The pre-recording makes it possible for everything to stay together - now - regardless of that - it is STILL Jennifer Hudson's glorious voice - and she probably recorded it all in 1 take - she is AMAZING - she was NOT cheating.

understandable. I was nervous for her only that she may break down. You can tell she was a bit nervous. But she did amazing. Even the pre recording was awesome. She gave me goosebumps. I'm not a fan of hers, but I think she was great. I hope nothing but the best for her and her future.

First and foremost, it was still her voice not some other person. Secondly, it is really true that you can't expect someone to sing without the reverb in a stadium no matter how high tech you are.
Third and Lastly, At least it ain't Roseanne Bar
