Former Death Row Records label head Marion "Suge" Knight is recovering in an Arizona hospital following a fight early Monday. Knight was attending a private party at the Scottsdale W Hotel when the fight broke out.Two men were arrested in connection with the altercation. One of the men taken into custody, Robert Carnes Jr. is said to be the business manager for producer/singer Akon. Sgt. Mark Clark confirmed that Akon was not at the party when the fight broke out. According to Akon's publicist Jaime Cassavechia, Carnes Jr. is a member of Akon's camp but is not his business manager.
Clark stated that officers arrived and witnessed Carnes Jr., 38, punch Knight in the face twice. Carnes was charged with one count of felony aggravated assault. The second assailant, 33-year-old Thomas Leon Anderson Jr., was arrested and booked on suspicion of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Both were booked at Scottsdale City Jail.
Knight is believed to have been treated at SHC-Osborn Hospital in Scottsdale for his injuries. At press time the former mogul did not release a statement regarding the altercation.
This marks yet another public debacle for Knight. Last August he was arrested in Las Vegas for punching his girlfriend in the face. Knight was taken into custody and charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance for that incident.
Last month also saw the sale of Knight's former label Death Row Records to a Canadian entertainment company for $18 million. The sale included the label's music catalogue, which featured previously never-before-released music from late rapper Tupac Shakur.
