Battered Rihanna Pic Hits the 'Net, Sparks Outrage

A photograph of a battered Rihanna hit the internet last night, sparking public outrage. The photo was reportedly taken by the Los Angeles Police Department after her boyfriend Chris Brown allegedly assaulted her on Feb. 8.

In the pic, which was originally posted by entertainment Web site TMZ.com, the singer's face is clearly swollen and it appears as though the pop/R&B diva has welts on her forehead and bruises on her eyes, nose and cheeks.

The leaked photo has sparked controversy and the LAPD launched an internal investigation, asking for the public's help in finding the person who illegally obtained and distributed the disturbing image.

According to an official police statement, the image "has the appearance of one taken during an official Domestic Violence investigation." The statement goes on to stress the impropriety of the image being released to the media. "The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence."

Rihanna, who turns 21 on today (Feb. 21), has yet to release a statement regarding the incident which took place almost two weeks ago. However, the singer's family has spoken out about the incident.

Brown released a statement on Sunday. In the statement released via his rep, the crooner stressed his regret. "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired," he said. "I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother, and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerge a better person."

According to police reports, Brown and Rihanna were allegedly engaged in a heated argument following record executive Clive Davis' annual pre-Grammy party. The fight allegedly became physical and Rihanna was left with bruises on her body, contusions on her forehead, and bite marks. Brown, who fled the scene before cops arrived, later turned himself in right before his scheduled Grammy arrival. He was booked under the felony charge of making criminal threats and released on $50,000 bail.

WHO CARES!!! All I know is I have been with my husband for nine years and under no circumstances we would raise our hands to each other! It was not ok for Rihanna to hit him or for him to hit her! Ladies if you think it's ok to hit a guy because of the simple fact that you are female WRONG! If you demand respect than give it, it's called "self control" for a reason, don't expect someone to restrain themselves from beating your dumb ass if you can't control your own dam actions.

Anger is not an emotion it's a reaction to an emotion, deal with your emotions to solve the problem and don't act out anger!

ppl come on...i know what he did wasss so horrible butt ppl make mistakes. that's how we learn when these things happen its for a reason. they both learned from this and hopefully it wont happen again. like i said earlier they learn, this helps u become more wise and helps in future decisions. yesss it WAS rely wrong for chris brown to hit rihanna butt it shouldn't make everyone turn their backs on either one of them. i mean u shouldnt stop listening o chris brown because of what he did...hes a GREAT singer and just hit some bumps along the road butt ppl will get over it and under stand how young they both are and being famous singers could be VERY stressful and hard to get ur head around butt we should forgive him...he learned that these things happen and ppl will forgive him and hopefull love him no matter what. and for rihanna i love u and igive u all my hopes and pray for u and i know ull get thro this...ur a strong woman and happy late 21st birthday!!!

Does anyone remember the original story as a CAR ACCIDENT? Rihanna's injuries, the 2 contusions to her forehead, look more like a car accident than a punch. Is it possible Rihanna has changed part of the story out of anger that Chris Brown was seeing another woman behind her back? Has Rihanna told the FULL STORY, NOT JUST HER SIDE? If Rihanna interrupted the text of Chris meeting ANOTHER WOMAN LATER, do you think Rihanna is in a position to tell the FULL STORY? Does anyone know about a woman SCORNED?? Should we WAIT to find out what REALLY HAPPENED BEFORE PASSING JUDGEMENT?
