Suspect's Lawyer in Jennifer Hudson Family Murders Quits

The lawyer representing William Balfour in the murder case against Jennifer Hudson's three family members has stepped down. Joshua Kutnick resigned Monday sighting lack of financial resources. Kutnick did however state that he still believed in Balfour's innocence but that the high profile case was taking its toll on his pockets.

"It's the kind of case that involves intense hours," Kutnick said in an interview not long after breaking the news to Balfour's mother. "I was gathering all resources, but I couldn't finance it."

Balfour, 27, is the sole suspect in the brutal slayings of Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and young nephew. He entered a not guilty plea to the three charges of first-degree murder, and was scheduled to receive a new public defender as of Monday.

The killings, which took place in October of last year came as a shock to many in the Chicago neighborhood Hudson grew up in. Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson's sister Julia, proclaimed his innocence telling police that he was at his girlfriend's house when the murders occurred.

Balfour was arrested shortly after the body of Hudson's 7-year-old nephew was found in the back of an SUV. He was originally held on a parole violation before being formerly charged in December.

Following the murders Hudson, an Oscar winning actress went into seclusion for months. As of late Hudson has emerged to continue to the promotion of her Grammy winning self-titled debut, which was released one moth before the murders.

She will begin her first headlining tour in March.
