Tiearra Mari Transforms Madonna Song, Talks Comeback Album

Former Roc-A-Fella Records princess Teairra Mari sashayed into our New York office to give us a preview of her upcoming album, 'At That Point,' which hits stores April 7. And, at just 21, the extra-petite singer has already had her fair share of industry drama, which always makes for a sweet comeback, but Mari's not bitter. Instead, the singer has adopted a zen-like attitude.

'New time, new mindset' Mari tells the BoomBox while reflecting on the past three years. "How [much] worse can it get?" She jokes when explaining how she got word she'd been dropped on her prom night.

After being plucked from Detroit and shaped into the next big thing on Jay-Z's former imprint, Mari was then dropped by the record label after the release of her debut, 'Roc-A-Fella Records Presents: Teairra Mari.' Mari openly admits that she didn't see it coming, especially after allowing the label to promote her as a youthful bad girl for the sake of her having an image. "I had a 'Parental Advisory' sticker on my first album," Mari notes. She was 17 at the time of the album's release, so technically speaking, the minor couldn't purchase her own album.

But now, older and wiser, the singer is gearing up for the release of her new album, which is set to feature appearances by Flo Rida, Pleasure P, with production by Polow Da Don and The Runners. The aforementioned roster of talent set to appear on the new project isn't the only reason fans of the 'Make Her Feel Good' singer should check out 'At That Point.' During the private listening session, Mari noted that the Neff-U-produced track 'Find My Way Back' was originally for Madonna and was presented to her as an edgy rock song. "They had this rocker chic singing it [at first]," she admits.

Although she's still recording and mixing the forthcoming project, Mari assures us that the second single will be 'Cause a Scene,' featuring Flo Rida. The songstress is set to launch a promotional tour in coming months and hopes to join Jamie Foxx and/or Keyshia Cole on tour. Before leaving the office, Mari delivered the message of the day: "Nobody holds your destiny in their hands, so you gotta keep pushin'."
