Lil Wayne Avoids Atlanta Drug Charges

An Atlanta Judge has dismissed the felony drug charges against Lil Wayne. The multiple Grammy-winning, syrup-sipping (by his own admission) rapper was arrested in August of 2006 at the Twelve Hotel, where Atlanta police they'd found a small amount of marijuana and several unmarked bottles containing hydrocodone and a generic form of Xanax.

Now, almost three years later, Superior Court Judge Michael Johnson granted Wayne's request to suppress on the grounds that the evidence had been attained by illegal search.

"The testimony by the State's witnesses had numerous inconsistencies in material evidence provided at this hearing, especially when compared to the written police reports that had been created ... by two of the three officers who entered the hotel rooms at the Twelve Hotel," stated Johnson.

According to Wayne's attorney, William Head, the room was neither registered under his client's name, nor was his client present when the bust was made. Furthermore, Wayne wasn't even made aware of the case until he was arrested as a fugitive in October of 2007, because his summons had been mailed to his New Orleans address, which had been been destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

"He didn't even know there were charges pending," Head said.

Wayne still faces an upcoming court date on a weapons charge from 2007 in New York, and multiple felony drug charges in Arizona, where he was arrested on his tour bus, where police reportedly found 3.7 ounces of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine and 41 grams of ecstasy.
