One of the hottest tickets at this year's SXSW music festival was a performance by neo-soul singer Erykah Badu, but unfortunately a stalker attempted to stop her from hitting the stage. The Texas native was billed to perform at 7:30 pm, but two hours earlier police were apprehending a stalker that barricaded Badu inside her Dallas home. Through the magic of technology, the 37-year-old mother of three updated fans on her status via her Twitter page. "Police just apprehended a stalker in front of my house. Stay tuned for details," she twittered. Badu also stated that her stalker had been in front of her house several times and exhibited peculiar behavior. "I was kind to her [the] first three times," she wrote. "I knew something was off." The woman also spread several miscellaneous items on the singer's grass, including blue shutters and a rabbit.
According to TMZ, the woman was apprehended by the use of pepper spray before being handcuffed by police. Badu later headed to her performance over an hour behind schedule, but kept fans updated of her whereabouts on a minute-by-minute basis.
SXSW, which is usually reserved for rock/alternative music bands and indie acts, had no problem getting fans to attend Badu's performance. Despite her tardiness hundreds of fans awaited her arrival, which was apart of the Kanye West's G.O.O.D music showcase. Sponsored by Levi's jeans and the Fader Magazine the event also featured both West and Badu's former boyfriend Common. The two performed Common's 2000 hit 'The Light' together.
Credited for ushering in a new realm of jazzy soul infused music in the mid-90s Badu has seen success with hits like "On and On" and "Bag Lady." Last year her personal life became a topic of discussion after it was revealed the she was pregnant with her third child, the first with her rapper boyfriend Jay Electronica. Badu also has an 11-year-old son with OutKast member Andre 3000, and a 5-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
