T.I. Sentenced to a Year and a Day in Federal Prison

As expected (and previously reported), rap star T.I. will serve a year and a day in prison over a 2007 felony weapons charge stemming from his October 2007 arrest. The self-proclaimed King of the South was officially handed the 366-days sentence today in Atlanta. "Today I would like to say thank-you to some, and apologize to all," the rapper said at a press conference outside the courtroom.

T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, has waited a year to hear his official sentence while adhering to the stipulations of his plea agreement. The rapper, who told The BoomBox earlier this month that he wasn't "thrilled" to serve time, is expected to turn himself in to the authorities within the next 30 to 60 days. "I'm looking forward to moving forward," T.I. plainly stated.

Northern Georgia District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. called the rapper's plea arrangement "experimental," but ultimately a success. Parnell praised the rapper for exceeding the expectations expecting from the deal. "I'm resistant to the lockup mentality," Pannell told the courtroom. "I hope this sentencing leads to other experiments that will protect the community and show a respect for the law." Judge Pannell's satisfaction with how T.I. handled his pending situation may have resulted in some more leniency as the court acknowledged that the rapper has prior commitments that will not allow him to enter prison before May 19.

T.I. pleaded guilty to a federal weapons charge and agreed to complete 1,000 hours of community service prior to his sentencing. He also agreed to complete an additional 500 hours of community service once released from prison.

T.I. will open up about his upcoming jail time on "T.I.'s Road to Redemption: The Reckoning," airing Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.

TI did something that he didnt have to do and that was cooperate throughly he could have ran and said f it but he used his wrong to try to help people not to do what he has done and follow the bad choices that he has made....you don;t know him and he did what he did for him to get any jail time is punishment. 366 days of someone's life is alot to take from them their family friends work and all you people seem to care about is that he is a celebrity? before he was TI he was Clifford and Clifford will be in jail not TI and he never seemed to project himself as some type of above all celebrity. He is young and he can bounce back from this everyone deserves a chance I hope he learns his lesson and gets himself right for his wife to be children and himself because in the end he is still a human!!!

Dana doesn't care abot anybody. You all should be punished severely for any crime.

It isn't about learning right from wrong and becoming a better person. It's about locking you "criminals" away so that scared people like her don't have to worry.

Hopefully, you will get yours, too. For being so wrong.

741741, I have no fear of anybody! What I am afraid of is losing my "legal" guns. Yes my friend, I have many, I collect and very much enjoy shooting my guns. I am a hunter, lifetime member and full supporter of the NRA. But when some "fool" looses' control and uses a gun for criminal acts. The goverment and general public wants to create more restrictions, taxes, and bans making it more difficult for a law abiding person to buy, own and use guns. That's why I would like to see harsher penalties for persons who use guns for "illegal acts".

First of let me say this. I do not care about who this man is, what color his skin is, or how popular he is. I would not care if this were a woman. If you lock someone up for crimes like this, then they cannot do it again. If the person decides to pass his lesson on and teach against crime, then great. Look, this is not the first time he has committed a felony. That is why he could not buy a legal firearm in the first place. Roll model, good man, I DON'T THINK SO!!!!
And Saundra, as for your comment, I agree. The courts, government and justice system never has done a good job at dealing with any of the issues you mentioned. I would like to see all criminals dealt with as harshly as the crime that they committed.

I don't think the judge cared if he was a celebrity or not, but any amount of jail time is punishment. He has learned his lesson and has done community service to make up for what he did and he will also be doing jail time. He has reached other people who were on a bad path with his show. I think he will not commit another crime, and has helped other people to not commit the same crimes. He knows what guns can do because of his friend that he lost, so he won't commit a crime again.
