Common Officially Scratched From 'Green Lantern' Film

For the past year and a half, rapper/actor Common has been rumored to be up for the role of the Green Lantern in Warner Bros.' upcoming 'Green Lantern' film, which was originally dubbed as 'Justice League of America.' According to the newest reports, however, Common has officially been taken off the project.

The film, which will be directed by Martin Campbell of 'Casino Royale' fame, was originally scripted to center around the "John Stewart" Green Lantern, who was depicted as black in the comic book. Both Common and Tyrese were rumored to be up for the role, with Common most likely in the lead.

After a "series of production issues and script rewrites," the film has now been been redirected to feature the "Hal Jordan" Green Lantern instead, who is a white character. Actor Chris Pine ('Star Trek') is said to be the most likely candidate for the role.

No word yet as to whether Com's most recent project, his eighth album 'Universal Mind Control,' had anything to do with the redirection of the film.

Common will appear alongside Christian Bale in the upcoming 'Terminator Salvation.'
