Despite the controversy surrounding pop sensation Rihanna, her willingness to reach out to those in need is still a priority. The singer visited one of her biggest fans, six-year-old Jasmina Anema, who has a rare and aggressive form of leukemia at New York University Medical Center on April 2. Rihanna initially learned about Jasmina's illness in February after viewing a video made by the girl's best friend. After viewing the video, which asked for a bone marrow donor for Jasmina, Rihanna teamed up with the young fan's mother and friend to start a bone marrow registry to find a match.
Only scheduled to spend an hour at the hospital, Rihanna and Jasmina became good friends and spent more than three hours talking, playing and dancing. Rihanna also brought Jasmina a large bag of Cover Girl Cosmetics and ended up painting her biggest fan's finger nails and even applying a little make-up.
"Jasmina is such a vibrant and amazing little girl, so full of life. It breaks my heart to see her go through this difficult sickness" Rihanna said in an interview with People.com. "Jasmina still hasn't found a match and she is just one of 6,000 people suffering from leukemia or other blood cancers who search the registry every day for a life-saving match. We can take action and sign up to be bone marrow donors. We can save the life of Jasmina and others like her."
