Rapper/actor Sticky Fingaz learned the hard way that if you play with a gun, chances are it might go off. Last week, the 36-year-old accidentally shot his friend, Luce Cannon, in the leg while showing off his new Desert Eagle pistol. (There's a 'Throw Ya Gunz' joke somewhere in this story.)Although he is doing fine now, the bullet shattered Luce's bone which required surgery to fix. "It was an accident," the rapper, born Kirk Jones, said. "S--- happens. He's good. He's alive." The gun was registered to Jones, no charges were filed and the two also remain friends.
This incident's outcome however is a far cry from the Queen, NY, native's 2005 gun charge arrest. Jones surrendered to police after leaving an unregistered firearm in a New York City hotel room. He was later arraigned on one count of criminal weapons possession.
As one third of the rap group Onyx, Jones made a name for himself in the music industry before delving into acting. He has appeared in dozens of television and film projects including the movie 'Next Friday' with rapper Ice Cube.

PLEASE stop referring to rappers as musicians. It would save me a lot of time. Thanks.

rappers are Definitely not musicians, they are not even composers of music considering none of them use original music. only sampled bits of other peoples work, and furthermore what the hell do they all need guns for. they bitch and moan about being held down and victimized by society yet do absolutely nothing to dispel any myths or stereotypes about the culture. so go ahead and kill one another off so the world can get on to better things,. like fixing the problems that plague the world...

I am sick and tired of this debate whenever a story for a rapper/MUSICIAN comes around.
"A MUSICIAN is a person who plays or writes music. Musicians can be classified by their roles in creating or performing music..."
So once again, a rapper will write their own music, create their own beats, and performs on stage for an adoring audience. I'm sick of the prejudice and disgusting the replies expressed on this board.
If you don't like their music, fine. Don't go through the trouble to show your malice of hip hop culture and downgrade their achievements.

Rappers are not musicians. More like sobbing computer geeks, whom sing of nothing but rags to riches and constantly mention their misfortunes. This type of music just shows that we are getting more lazy about our entertainment. The only reason rapper get signed is so the corporate media can throw some trash on the radio to merchandise on because fans feel they have common ground with their favorite rappers, who can barely communicate with any educated person. Have Some Respect. R&B is above Rap because at least it is catchy. At least rappers are self-destructive, one dies every day, maybe one day there won't be any left.

Again, AOL errs in calling these people "musicians." Call them rappers if you must, but they are certainly not musicians.

I am a musician experienced forty years in the biz, and I'll concede that rappers are musicians in the sense that drummers are musicians...but a recent article that referred to DJ Jazzy Jef as a musican was just taking the term too liberally.

I teach jazz studies at the college level and have played jazz piano most of my life. My knowledge of classical and jazz theory is extensive. I appreciate your humor but I must relate that rappers are indeed musicians. Music is organized sound. I would challenge anyone to try to notate the syncopated rhythms in the vocals. These are many of thye same rhythms popularized by Joplin. I would also challenge anyone, especially a critic of the genre, to write and memorize a five minute poem and drop it precisely into rhythm. Critics often critique the things they don't understand.

Biknaker, how dare you try to sully up these forums with sound reasoning and rational thought?! Yes, rappers ARE musicians and just like ALL musicians, 99% of them suck! The other 1% are all that matter and they don't care whether any opinionated hacks think they qualify or not.

just because YOU dont think that rappers are musicians, doesnt mean that other people dont. so youu need to chill. kthanksbyee.

rappers are not musicians, regardless of whether they wrote their own scores or not.Call them composers if you wish (and i use the term broadly), but a composer is not a musician, although many are also musicians. What instrument does a rapper play? And they do not sing, they simply speak into the microphone.
And Biknaker, according to modern definition music is more than just organized sound.
