'Help Somebody' Lyrics

There's a moving inner peace that I love to see
Gotta raise my soul to tell ya how I feel
Gotta listen to the tears that people cry for me
In a world that's so wild, fear creeps
Cause when I get up to hear you, tears just fill my eyes
Now I know, I got to let the selfishness subside
Tell 'em ya'll

CHORUS:
Help somebody, help somebody
Show them what it is, give a little bit more
Help somebody, help somebody
Show them what it is, let 'em know

If you see the future, ask it if I'm there,
Ask it if I'm there

Ask it to tell you, did I ever make a stand,
Ask if you may care to mention, did I learn from everything
And even if it takes a sea of eternity to know,
I'll wait a century, a buried mess of bones, help me

Help me to give myself the way that you've given you
Help me to be the helping hand that makes a dream come true

Choir sing

CHORUS

If I'm there tell me if I'm there
Do you see me there

CHORUS

If you see the future, ask it if I'm there, ask it if I'm there

Maxwell - Thank You for the beautiful music and lyrics that make my heart feel like Im 17 again. The kind of music that played when I really fell in love for the first time. Like Charlie said, "The lyrics are thought provoking." It does takes me back to summer jams and relating that "special" song to the most all consuming love that was not meant to be. Not wrong place-wrong time but wrong place in time. Thanx girl6michele for expressing the feelings better than I. Thanx Maxwell for taking me back to a time when music told all the stories and had meaning and life.

I tried to post this to the article about Perry sending the 65 children to Disneyland, but apparently aol shut down that discussion board. After taking the time to write the piece, I wasn't ready to scrap it. So here it is.
Well... this has been waiting to be said a long time. I watched the hullabloo and tried to bite my lip. Regardless what people want to believe about why the children were removed from the pool. I truly hope it wasn't racism. But what I do know is that suddenly adding a group of 65 minority children, especially black city kids does dramatically change the complexion and suburban mostly white private club environment. I was in a school district that was 95% white. The district was gerrymandered to alleviate over crowding in nearby down town Kansas City, Missouri. The normal controlled quiet learning environment was enjoyed by suburban Grandview children. With the first day of the new semester the school suddently and dramatically erupted with decibal levels so loud it was unbelieveable. The building seemed to scream all the time Yes, it is true black children have a verbal communication pattern 3 times as loud as the white suburban children. I'm not saying its purposeful disrespect. It's just the communication system they learned to live and grow-up in. Diciplinary actions were so needed that the assistant principals suddenly became full time diciplinarians, The inner city parents didn't bother to respond to concerns or come to parent teacher conferences and instead of supporting the faculty decisions, disregarded them and called the teachers and administration racist. No one prepared the school or its staff for the extreme noise levels, the disruptions to learning, the increased dicipline issues, or anything else the black students brought. Attempts to get the new students to conform to the rules led to unrest. The black kids were unruly and took over the school. Within 2 years there was a 100% turn over among school staff who had been a stable and assett to the school They could no longer teach because they were doing discipline all day long. Unable to teach in that school, they found other schools further out from Kansas City, Mo and across into the Kansas School systems. I don't care if you want to hear it or if you want to live in denial, but the admission of 65 minirity children into a mostly white private club pool would have dramatically changed the environment and for the worse for member children. Frankly, I can see the sudden infusion into a pool with a few white kids making a huge difference. I can see a larger group usurping pool toys and I can see white children overwhelmed and why the mothers would be concerned and indignant. Just like in the Grandview school system, no one bothered to prepare anyone for the sudden admission of a minority cultural groupwhich had different communication patterns, different decibel loudness in verbal communication, and where the status of members suddenly became minority. I can see young swimmers being intinidated by these circumstances.
Now I cannot know if it was racism: neither can other readers. I do know that cultures clash, even when none would desire a bad outcome. I also know that some people like to cry racism because they are wanting excuses to behave badly or because they see dollar signs. So take a step back and reexamine. Its still an unfortunate scene. Could have anyone expected a different outcome given the scenario and the lack of preparation. I think the black and white children involved as well as all the staff would better served with someone talking to them about differences in culture and how those are perceived by different people, than by spending $500 x's 65, plus attendants to send the kids to Disneyland. On my behalf, I don't think I like some rich dude attempting to admit guilt and trying to buy off these kids. It just teaches that anytime someone points a finger and cries "racist" that there will be a reward. Now, what Perry is doing may look like philanthropy, but is truth, it's HURTING US ALL.
Racism is a bad thing, teaching beople they'll be rewarded for using the racism word is also a wrong thing.

The track is reminiscent of a summer jam. The lyrics are thought-provoking. I love how this album, thus far, emphasizes the horns. The albums (again, thus far) is a welcomed return to music.
