The legendary Roots crew debuted a new track from their forthcoming album 'How I Got Over' last night on 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.'The song, which is the title track from the album, has been called "a prime slice of the Roots' socially conscious hip-hop" by Billboard. A video for 'How I Got Over' will also be released in July.
Though their album's release date has been pushed back to October 20, 'How I Got Over is said to also feature Icelandic singer Patty Crash on a song called "The Day" and a cover of a Frank Zappa instrumental tune "Peaches en Regalia." It will also include version of a song by Cody Chesnutt, who they last worked with on 2002's "The Seed (2.0)."
While it's been long established that the Roots are hip hop's hardest working band, in 2009 they've stepped things up to an almost impossible level.
In addition to being the house band for Jimmy Fallon's show since March, on Saturday they begin a national tour as part of Rock the Bells, sharing the stage with Nas, Damian Marley and Big Boi, amongst others. They also maintain a weekly "jam session" at the Highline Ballroom in NYC, and have planned a residency in Atlantic City, NJ in July.
