Cassie Donates Cut-Off Hair to Charity

Cassie is admitting that shaving her head was a pre-planned idea, but not a publicity stunt. The 23-year-old spoke to The BoomBox about taking such a big step, stating that she initially had second thoughts. "It was planned out. I was just chickening out of it for a minute. I finally woke up one morning and I was like 'What do I need that hair for?' and it was cool. I gave my mother the ponytail and she donated it." The cut-off ponytail went to the charity 'Locks of Love,' which makes wigs for sick children that cannot afford them.

Following the cut, Cassie posted a picture of her new hairdo on her Twitter page, sending the blogosphere into a frenzy. "Either people, they love it or they hate it. I love it!" The singer may have started a new trend, as television personality La La Vasquez recently shaved a side of her head, thanking Cassie for the idea. "I like hers [La La's]. Hers [is] just a little bit more 'around the way,' it has designs and stuff. Mine is a little more punk. I like the way it came out.

"It was really weird and hilarious and I was [on] an adrenaline rush when it was happening. I was like 'If I'm going to do this, I'm going to go all the way!' Hair grows back. It's not the end of the world, and it ended up looking kinda' cool. Whenever we go somewhere if I have to look a little different I can just put my hair over [the shaved area].

Cassie latest single 'Must Be Love' featuring Diddy was released to radio earlier this year. Her sophomore release 'Electro Love,' hits stores later this year.

You CAN donate your hair if it is colored or highlighted. I just wanted to let you know in case anyone thought they couldn't. They only turn down severely damaged hair. I color every 3 months and that is fine to donate. Hair has to be healthy and usable. If your not sure ask a hairdresser that donates locks of love before hand.

After finding out I had cancer losing my hair seemed the least of my worries. However when the day finally came to shave it off, I was traumatized. Now, 8 months later, my treatment is finished and my hair is finally growing back. I've hidden my bald head behind knit caps for the past 8 months but today, with my hair still only 1/2 inch long, I decided to quit hiding. I drove to the market and sat in the car for a few minutes before finally stepping out... without my cap. Oh sure, I got a few glances as I did my grocery shopping, but I think it was more out of curiosity than anything else. Or perhaps they were admiring my pretty blue eyes, or my high cheekbones, which seem much more prominent without the distraction of hair. Somehow I feel empowered. For someone who once swore that she couldn't live without long hair, I find myself looking at pictures of a short-haired Halle Berry, Victoria Beckham, and Sharon Stone and I wonder if I'm ready. Then I have an epiphamy. I survived a hysterectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. I survived cancer. I'm ready.

I myself and my husband both have cut our hair and donated it to Locks of Love. His hair was 11 inches and mine was 13 inches long. My mom died of cancer last year and my dad just got told he is in remission from lung cancer! This is great what Cassie did!!!! It just shows there are still people with good hearts in the world.

I grew my hair out when i was 11 and it was 16 inches and the woman said it was not long enough because she was too lazy to go through the process of sending it out. I let her cut my hair anyway because i wanted it short for summer and I believed her. the next day in the paper a little girl was recognized for donating her hair to locks of love with only 13 inches. I was so upset!! and I had never dyed my hair or anything so it would have been usable. she should be ashamed for denying a sick individual hair just because she didn't feel like putting it into an envelope!

I seriously think she is lying to cover up an otherwise dumb move that she now regrets. LOL charity website specifies that donated hair must be in a ponytail and further specifies that shaved hair is not acceptable or usable. Hmmmm.

Some time ago, my best friend found out she had cancer. The manager of a local beauty academy offered to cut her hair and make a wig for her out of her own hair, so that when the chemo caused her hair to fall out, ahe had a wig that matched her hair. If Locks of Love is not reliable, why not contact a local college or beauty school, find out if they have wig-making courses, and if they'd be willing to donate the wigs?

I think its great! It shows that even celebrities truly have a heart! My instructor ( I am in school to become a medical assistant) has done it and I am trying to grow my hair long enough to donate it as well. I think more people should donate their hair to "locks of love", think about all those children that have cancer and lose their hair because of the chemo. Their going through something I don't know if I could ever deal with, they need something to make them feel good....even if it's a wig. They deserve some happiness. Alot of parents spend all their savings in the hopes of making their child better( I would do the samething!) so it's understandable that their parent(s) can't afford to get them a wig, let's face it wigs aren't cheap. So..think about the children and donate your hair! It will grow back and it'll make you feel good about helping someone less fortuneate!
