'Cell Block Z,' the new graphic novel "from the mind of Ghostface Killah" is not quite what it appears to be at all. Coming out Wednesday, the book has received a substantial promotional push with a trailer (oh, fancy!) and some patented blog hype. We asked Ghostface how he came up with the idea and what it was like to go through the process of creating a comic. The answer was a bit unexpected."I know nothing," Tony Starks told the BoomBox. 'You know what I mean? I mean, I don't know what I did in the past. I just don't know, B. I would have known if I sat down and tried to make a comic book. No one talked to me."
Yikes. So where the heck did this thing come from? After a bit of confusion, it became clear that while the idea, execution and promotion have nothing to with Ghost, he must have signed off on the project at some point.
He recalls, "I remember Meth and Gza had one, but I have no idea when this happened. Maybe I had a treatment, but I never read it. If they paid me for that s---, of course I approved it. You know what I'm saying? I'll read my paperwork next time."
Ever the hustla, you have to appreciate the honesty. It still (somehow) looks cool, too. Seriously, check out that trailer.
