Rappers are having all sorts of trouble crossing borders these days. Ja Rule was recently denied a visa to perform in Australia because of his '"criminal history" and this week, Rick Ross was forced to cancel a concert on August 1 when he was denied entry into Bermuda.Government officials in Bermuda -- namely Immigration Minister David Burch, denied Ross' work permit to perform at the concert at the Cup Match Extravaganza in Bermuda's snorkel park. Bermuda's Royal Gazette newspaper cites the reason for the minister's disapproval as being based on the rapper's behavior, saying that Ross does not "possess good character and conduct."
The concert's promoter Kendricks Zuill said that immigration officials might be confusing Rick Ross, with "Freeway" Ricky Ross, a former drug kingpin, who was recently released from prison. "I've been trying to convince them that he is a man of good conduct," Zuill said. "I was providing them with information, but all they told me was that the Minister was not satisfied. It's something personal."
Ross' only prior run-in with the law was a January 2008 arrest for a gun charge, which was eventually dropped. The concert has been canceled and refunds are being issued to patrons who purchased tickets.
