With their critically-acclaimed independent album 'Pulse of the People' currently garnering buzz, the Florida/New York tandem of Dead Prez are now setting their sights on bringing their thought-provoking, politically-minded talents to the big screen. Stic. man and M-1 will be prominently featured on the soundtrack to 'Training Day' director Antoine Fuqua's upcoming film ' Brooklyn's Finest.' "We have two joints in the movie," stic told The BoomBox of the corrupt cop street drama, which is set to hit theaters this fall. "Don Cheadle, Richard Gere and Wesley Snipes are all in it."
Meanwhile Dead Prez's M-1 will be showcasing his acting chops in the independent film 'A Power Sun,' which tells the story of Sundiata Acoli, a former member of the Black Liberation Army who is currently incarcerated for his part in a controversial 1973 gun battle with New Jersey State Police.
"Through everything we have done in hip hop music, I've been allowed to play the role of Sundiata Acoli because of the upstanding way that dead prez has been able to represent the movement," M-1 said of the project, which is being produced by film company Field Up Productions and set for a 2010 release. "I just want to give a shout out to all the OG's who have embraced the music of Dead Prez. I'm honored that we have a place in rap to talk about what's real in the world. Look out for the flick."
Dead Prez, who made their album debut with the socially conscious 2000 classic 'Let's Get Free,' is currently on tour in support of 'Pulse of the People' -- which features production from DJ Green Lantern and appearances by Bun B, Styles P, and the legendary Chuck D of Public Enemy.
