The Wu comes in waves. With Ghostface's 'The Wizard of Poetry' scheduled for Sept. 29 and the highly anticipated 'Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2' coming from Raekwon on Sept. 8, it's no surprise that both rappers have decided to whet our appetites a bit.
Let's start with Mr. Tony Starks. 'The Wizard of Poetry' sampler features the heavy R&B sound that we're all expecting from Ghost's new album. 'Baby,' the first single featuring Raheem DeVaughn, is sort of underwhelming with a tinny piano sample and generic hook. "Forever" fares way better with a heftier '60s soul backing that provides a lush framework for some trademark storytelling. You'll also get snippets of new tracks featuring John Legend and Lloyd.
'Cuban Revolution,' Raekwon's new tape, dropped over the weekend. If you are still in love with the mid 1990s Wu style (aka human), this is must-cop material. While none of these tracks made the cut for 'OB4CL2,' you still get all the ghostly soul samples, dissonant piano stabs and gutter thumping beats you could ever ask for. Some of the outside verses are recycled, but we're not going to complain about guest features from Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Fat Joe and almost all Wu members. Download here.
