Documentary Seeks Answers in Jam Master Jay's Murder

Oct. 30 will mark seven years since the unsolved murder of Run-DMC member, DJ Jam Master Jay, who was gunned down in a Merrick Boulevard recording studio in Queens, NY, back in 2002. Despite the time that has elapsed since the murder, the hip hop community has not lost its' memories of the prolific DJ and an upcoming documentary aims to uncover some answers in the puzzling case.

The documentary, titled 'Two Turntables and a Microphone,' premiered at the 9th Annual Hollywood Black Film Festival in June 2008, and is slated for a fall release. The project is the brainchild of Jam Masters Jay's cousin Stephon "Phonz" Watford, but will be executive produced by 50 Cent, who had worked closely with Jay in the past.

The footage has been five years in the making and will feature interviews and insight from famous hip hop personalities including Rev. Run and Russell Simmons, who will discuss their interactions with Jay and give their insight on his murder. The film's producers are hoping that the work will encourage those with information to come forward and provide some answers in the case. Though no charges were filed at the time, many people believe that former drug dealer Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff was tied up in the murder.

The film was originally intended to be released in conjunction with 50's forthcoming album 'Before I Self Destruct', but because of several delays with the album release date, the documentary may be distributed separately. 'Before I Self Destruct' currently has a Sept. 29 shelf date.
