Rapper Lil Wayne is headed to the silver screen with his debut film 'Hurricane Season,' which will make it into theaters this year. Although originally slated for a DVD release the movie received extra financial binding allowing for greater distribution. The film, which is funded by the Weinstein Company, became a victim of economic hardship when the company was unable to fund its distribution. As luck would have it, the company, which is also behind Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds,' received a major boost when 'Basterds' racked in $140 million at the box office.
'Hurricane Season,' is based on a true story of a New Orleans high school basketball team as they make their way to the state championship amid the tribulations brought on by Hurricane Katrina. Aside from Wayne, 'Hurricane Season' stars Academy award-winning actor Forest Whitaker, Taraji P. Henson and fellow Cash Money member, Bow Wow.
A release date has not been set for 'Hurricane Season.'
