Former Dipset member Hell Rell has finally taken his longtime beef with Jim Jones to an authority with final say -- the judge. Rell, real name Durell Mohammed, filed a lawsuit against Jones and his previous record labels on Friday, Sept. 4, claiming that they all have failed to pay him royalties for his work.
The lawsuit targets Jim Jones as well as Tycoon Status Entertainment, E1 Entertainment and Baby Grande Records. Rell released his debut album, 'For the Hell of It' with E1 records (formerly Koch) in 2007 and his follow-up 2008 album, 'Black Mask, Black Gloves' on Entertainment BabyGrande Records but says he has not received proper payment for his work. In his suit Rell lists copyright infringement as his reason for taking legal action, accusing both Jones and the records label of improper use of his work.
Rell's beef with Jim Jones has been widely publicized since the Dipset crew parted ways, and he has been quoted as directly blaming Jim Jones for halting reconciliation between the Harlem-based crew. After cutting ties with his former associates, Rell recorded his upcoming album, 'Live From Hell,' on Money Maker Entertainment/EMI Records. The LP will hit stores on Oct 6.
