Darryl "DMC" McDaniels of seminal rap group Run-DMC just competed in a 100-mile charity bike race, this past weekend. The race, which took place on September 12, is called 'City to the Sand,' and challenges 100 participants to ride 100 miles from muggy end-of-summer heat of NYC to a plush beach town in the Hamptons, on Long Island.
The race is a fund-raising effort to raise $1 Million towards college scholarships for inner-city children, via The 100 Mile Man Foundation, and the Fund For Public Schools.
DMC rode as a representative of his charity, The Felix Oranization, which he founded with casting director Sheila Jaffe. The organization provides opportunities for foster children, busing them to Camp Felix summer camp in Putnam Valley, New York.
No word yet as to how DMC fared, though we have a feeling this is one of those races where everybody wins. There's a couple "100 Miles and Biking" And Bike DMC jokes in there somewhere, but we're not going to make them.
