Da Brat Organizes Talent Show for Fellow Inmates

The ability to adapt and make the best out of tough situations is a truly redeeming human quality -- just ask Da Brat. The Chi-town rapper, real name Shawntae Harris is currently finishing up the first of her three-year sentence in an Alto Federal State Prison near Atlanta, after being charged with assault charge back in 2007. Despite the two years still remaining on her sentence, Da Brat has decided to put a positive spin on her time behind bars by organizing a talent show for her fellow inmates.

Brat's program, which the rapper dubbed "Showtime at Alto," will be based on New York City's Showtime at the Apollo series, and will allow inmates to showcase their talents to their peers. Brat went as far as reaching out to her longtime pal DJ Nabs to provide the music for the event, which she hopes that prison officials will turn into an annual event.

In October 2007 Da Brat was incarcerated after hitting a waitress in the face with a bottle of rum at Jermaine Dupri's 'Studio 72' Club. Prior to this incident, she was also charged with assaulting another woman with a gun in 2000, but only received community service, a hefty fine and probation for her mishap.

Da Brat's 1994 debut album, 'Funkdafied' made her the first platinum-selling female rapper. Her most recent album was 2005's 'Ghetto Love.'

Yet another shining example of the beauties of hip hop culture. Incarceration for violent assault. African Americans across the globe are swelling with pride. Da Brat is truly an ornament on the crown of western civilization. A true talent and classy woman if ever there was one.

If Martin Luther King Jr. could see what has become of black culture today in the name of hip hop he would never stop vomiting. Yes We Can do far better than this.

First off, do not insult all african americans and make it seem like we are glorifying tha brats actions, when in fact i speak for myself when i say she was ignorant and stuiped for doing what she did and she is extremely lucky that she got the sentence she recieved. Furthermore, that was i no way shape or form classy, and if you knew tha brat she is far from that description...(classy)...i mean shes a dike...so b4 u assume...think it threw a bit more shit skit
