Jay-Z Says Lil Mama's Stunt Was Out of Line

The lack of stage security at MTV's VMAs on Sunday, Sept. 13 was alarming from the minute an allegedly drunken Kanye West jumped on stage to harass Taylor Swift. But the country singer wasn't the only one who was confused and upset by an unexpected guest appearance.

During Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' closing performance of 'Empire State of Mind,' from the 'Blueprint 3,' the two performers received a third, unwanted member in the form of Lil Mama. The 'America's Best Dance Crew' judge maneuvered her way on stage at the end of the performance to strike an impromptu pose with the pair and confused the crowd. After the performance, Alicia Keys appeared on the 'Today Show' and said she wished Lil Mama had enjoyed the performance from somewhere else but the stage. "We can appreciate her being overwhelmed and inspired," Keys said, "but we would have appreciated it if she would have did it from her seat."

Hov has held his peace since the incident, but finally told MTV News yesterday that he was irritated by Lil Mama's decision to crash his well-rehearsed performance. "To interrupt that moment for us, I don't think that was the right thing to do," Jay said. He pointed out that her decision to intrude was equally as rude as Kanye's stunt. "It was a lot of planning that went into that performance. To disrupt that was outta line," he said. But Jay admitted that despite his anger, there was nothing he could've done in the moment to correct the situation. "What I'ma do, fight Lil Mama?" he asked.

Lil Mama, who is a fellow Brooklyn rapper, has apologized to both Jay and Alicia for her faux pas, explaining that her emotions were "running high," as she watched the two icons singing about New York.
