MTV to Air DJ AM's Drug Intervention Series

After some debate about the timing and content sensitivity of their drug-intervention reality show, 'So Far Gone,' MTV has decided to move forward with plans to air the program, which stars the late DJ AM.

AM -- real name, Adam Goldstein, was found dead in his New York City apartment, just three days after MTV wrapped filming on eight episodes of the show. The reality series documents Goldstein as he enlists the help of an addiction specialist to counsel others through their battles with drugs, while still recovering from his own addiction problem.

The show was originally scheduled for an Oct. 5 premiere date, but after AM's untimely passing, MTV networks said that no decisions had been made on whether on not the show would air as planned. A toxicology report explaining the cause of death for the Philadelphia native has not yet been released, but with evidence at the scene pointing to a drug overdose, the credibility of Goldstein's role in the show came into question.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, MTV has been in talks with the Goldstein family about setting an appropriate run date for the show, and despite the tragic circumstances surrounding his death, some believe that AM's role in 'So Far Gone,' will help to project the necessity of anti-drug counseling.

Before he passed away AM tweeted that he had wrapped filming on the show, and seemed excited to premiere the project.

DJ Am is a sad story... you know why? because you would think that after he could have almost died in a plane crash... it was drugs that took his life. i dont know. wouldn't you think oh shit i almost lost my life.. i survived a horrible crash... lets be thankful i'm still alive? sadly not.
it's a horrible thing but either which way R.I.P

Brucie,
What honesty and courage you have! I agree with all you said and will keep you in my prayers for a long, healthy, clean life! Some people are lucky to survive....I'm so sorry DJ AM couldn't be one of those.....he did so well for so long....proves what a struggle it is....one day at a time! God Bless!

It's typical like usual to have people who havent gone thru addiction to say these shows fail ... Intervention has people(host) who are recovering addicts that try to help for others to get help and it works wonders. MTV will probaly have 800 numbers and places people can go to and call that need the help but arent sure how to go about it and also that same info can be used for people who know someone who is an addict.. even if it chances one person and only one person then its a success.

All it takes it changing one persons perspective that has addiction to change so many peoples lives. Dont make the assumption because he was still having problems that it was a bad idea for him to be around addicts or even that doing the show was a bad idea. Clearly he knew that what he was doing was bad and wanted out and didnt want others to go thru what he has or was going thru. He wanted to teach people thru his experiences why you shouldnt start it in the first place, and yes he may have died before it aired, but the message is still the same.

Possibly showing the down side of usage may prevent more and more people from dieing from things that they dont need to die from. (Its especially great for those in poorer communities that a lot of times are around these issues (alcohol/drugs) and may not have as many positive role models. To hear the downside of it from a famous person that also lost his life struggling- might possibly change how their lives go in the future- not everyone is educated the same way about this stuff when the are young but its something everyone should know.

I just want to know why MTV would chose to air a show that is hypocrytical. He is "helping" addicts, but then overdoses himself...and they are airing this show...why? The guy had a second chance to live after a plane crash and blew it because he couldn't get help for a drug addiction. I am sure the guy who DID die on the plane would have killed for that chance DJ AM took for granted. I am sure the guys girlfriend and newborn would have loved to have their husband/father back as well. Nice MTV! honor the guy who wasted the second chance!

Cristin - you know it all, dont' you? How disrespectful is your post?? Ever hear of survivor's guilt? Ever hear of someone who had a handle on something but then a tragic event changed them in such a way that YOU don't understand? How evil you are to say what you did.....DJ didn't want this type of ending to his life you mo! He also didn't want the nightmares of plane crashes, the fear of fire, the guilt of why he survived and friends didn't....shame on you!

I am going to tell you guys the same thing that I tell my own kids. Because I have been there and because I have done that; it makes me the perfect person to tell you not to do it. End of story.

DJ AM is the perfect person to tell people not to do drugs, look at the example he left. Do you want to die too?

A wasted death, sad. I will say some very insightful blogs regarding addictions. I would say his chosen profession was the biggest downfall to kicking his problem. Kind of like the alchoholic Bar tender
