Former Def Jam artist, Lady Sovereign was jailed in Australia this past weekend, after spitting at a nightclub doorman. The UK grime rapper and self-proclaimed "biggest midget in the game" arrived in Australia to perform five dates on the Parklife festival tour, but she apparently only got so far as a Brisbane gay club before getting extremely intoxicated, and hocking a loogie in a nightclub doorman's face.
The reportedly hysterical young MC was then hauled off to jail for the night. She was released the following day, and, after pleading guilty to assault and disorderly conduct, fined $400 Australian by the court and forced to pay $200 to the doorman. The judge then scolded her about the "serious health implications" of spitting in public.
Following her court appearance, Lady Sov was happily able to appear at the festival as well, after which she tweeted, "Brisbane police need to go catch some real criminals ... What a waste...Spitting in someone's face is nasty, but how about a guy dressed up as a girl running at you in the toilets and punching you in the head? Yes, that's what happened prior to the spitting. So everyone please stop calling me nasty."
She later explained that "If you was there you would understand...The transvestite must have been a regular because I didn't see no one dragging his a-- out of the club that night."
Otherwise, Sov says she is "enjoying Australia." Her next spot on the five-city electronic music tour is Perth. Doormen, guard your grills.
