Politicians to Ban Hip-Hop After Stabbing at Plies Show

PliesPoliticians in Fort Myers, Florida, hometown of rapper Plies, are hoping to ban hip hop shows and performances in the city's downtown area, following a stabbing at a recent Plies concert.

Councilman Warren Wright will argue for the banning of hip hop events at the Harborside Event Center, and other venues near downtown Fort Myers' riverfront, at an upcoming city council meeting this Monday (Oct. 5). Wright contends that rap-related events are generally responsible for "violence and disruption," citing the September 6th stabbing of a bouncer, following a Plies performance at the Harborside.

The ban has the vocal support of the city's newly elected mayor, Randy Henderson, who complained that he finds the music "vulgar," and is in favor of quieting Plies. "If there's a legal way to do that, it's a worthy idea," Henderson said.

Good job guys, way to support your local artists. Which other platinum-selling, nationally known musicians live in your town, again?

That maybe true drumboydrizzle ,but rap has broken all barriers of disgust and filth. One theme and fad after another...glorifying drugs ,drug dealing ,drug use ,gangs ,killing, racisum, degrading women, murder, prostitution ,pimping, gay bashing you name it. Come on dude enough is enough...FREE SPEECH MY A$$.This is outright insanity. Now the thing that gets me is that the big record companies directed it and promotes it for black folk.....if it was all that wonderful it would be promoted by many whites and we would have just as many white rappers rappin degrading white girls and calling themselves "CRACKERS" ,OK.

I'm black and it has nothing to do with racisum or because they are black. I'm so sick and tired of my people condoning filth and garbage and then wanting to claim free speech or say they are targeted because they are black. This garbage they call music should have been banned a long time ago when Easy E sponsored and financed by people hiding behind "the Star of David" introduced this degrading trash. Their should have been an outcry of outrage from black so-called leaders ,ministers and the black public as a whole but noooo, only support and then to add insult to injury...calling this abomination "BLACK CULTURE".We have totally lost our minds. This real racist in high places has really done a good job of manipulating black people.I HOPE THEY BAN ALL OF THIS BASELESS GARBAGE. Not only has it knocked out a lot of real music talent ,but it has destroyed more black males mentally and physically than any known weapon.WHEN WILL WE WAKE UP!. Back in the 80's a KKK told me pretty soon they will not have to lift a finger to destroy N^..gers, they will gladly do it themselves. He was right because at the time he said look around if I did not believe him and see whose wearing the"CHAINS AND HOODS".....We are the laughing stock of the world .....It's amazing how a people can destroy another people and they gladly dance to their own destruction....SIMPLY AMAZING!

First off, I'd like to clear the air here. I'm a Caucasian. I play a numerous amount of musical instruments, as well as writing lyrics and singing. (When I say singing and musical instruments, I mean classical training, not just an ignorant piece of trash who alternates power chords and calls himself a musical prodigy.) That's not the point I'm trying to make. As much as I don't like most/all of the mainstream corporate media (c)rap that you listen to on the radio nowadays, I think it's a bigger issue than banning hip-hop concerts. It's just a Trojan horse to slowly silence the right of expression and free speech. Are the people who plan on participating in this city council meeting straight up ignorant? If this absurd idea even catches momentum, record companies and artists are just going to come up with a new name for hip-hop. And on another note, who is going to be the deciding factor to determine whether or not music is hip-hop? Do you base it on vulgar lyrics? I know plenty of metal bands, even country bands that tend to enjoy the idea of controversial and vulgar lyrics. If you follow metal, you'll know that Pantera's "Dimebag" Darrell Lance Abbott was shot playing a show in his side project Damage Plan live on stage. Nathan Gale, a piece of trash, took this man's life. So do we say since some psychotic lune shoots up a place, that metal music is now unsafe and we ban metal shows? Don't think I'm supporting rap, which the concept of still boggles my mind. A genre that emphasizes violence/competition among it's peers, illegal activities such as prostitution, murder and robbery, lack of human morals, basically all indulgences that are known as "mortal sin." And you're surprised when the people who listen to artists that glorify this lifestyle stab somebody in the crowd? Get real. Wake up out of your fantasy dream world and step into reality. But I don't even blame the rappers, because when it all boils down, they're just a product of their environment. Also, free speech is not just for a positive message, but negative messages. But think about it, if you think mainstream corporate media honestly had a ounce of moral fiber in their bodies, that they would maybe listen to/read the lyrics of their artists BEFORE ever endorsing their record deals, let alone sending their message out to the youth? Maybe, but the money is too good. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Im not exactly a fan of hip-hop, but that's not what's being attacked here. Our freedoms are being stripped away from us. Just like other people have posted, these things can happen anywhere. President Lincoln was assassinated watching the musical comedy 'Our American Cousin', and did anyone try to get comedic plays banned??? No, because people back then had some common f-cking sense.

Nothing is exactly black and white. This could happen at an Opera. It just goes to show you how featherbrained some of our Politicians are. Perhaps suspending "Plies" from Fort Meyers is an option, but Hip-hop, an entire genre?? Hm

I am going to pray for you. And he's not African he's African American. And half of us African Americans only have small traces of pure African still running through our blood. Probably just as much as you. And yes you have some type of African in you. Even if it is .5 percent. Since we all originated from the continent. So your going to have to shut up too.
