Gucci Mane Cancels FAMU Concert Due to House Arrest

Rapper Gucci Mane won't be going to college anytime soon -- well Florida A&M University that is. Gucci canceled his headlining appearance at the school due to a pretty big legal obligation: he's under house arrest.

Despite protests from some students who felt the rapper's lyrics were too violent, the October 24 Gucci Mane & Friends concert was not canceled. Instead, he voluntarily pulled out of the event citing legal reasons. The reason is that the rapper was unable to secure permission to travel to the event and is being forced to remain confined to his home leading up to a court appearance due to an alleged parole violation that is set for October 26 in Georgia.

"Gucci was booked and paid to come," said concert promoter Willie McKenzie in an interview with FAMU publication 'The Fauman.' "I got a call last week from Gucci Mane's lawyer saying his court date had been pushed to the Monday after the show and the judge would have to approve him to leave the state."Set to be a major event during the school's homecoming week, Florida-rapper and fellow collaborator Plies will replace Gucci on the bill.

This isn't the first time an appearance by Gucci has been met with protest due to his lyrics. Earlier this month North Carolina A&T dropped their name from an upcoming homecoming concert featuring the former trap-star following student protests.

"We have agreed with the promoter to remove the name of North Carolina A&T State University from the event," said the school's chancellor Dr. Harold Martin in a statement. "While this does not absolve us of our connection to the event, it allows us, within our limited options, to take a moral stand while we simultaneously honor our legal obligations."

As far as his legal troubles go, Gucci will appear in court October 26 on charges that he violated his probation.
