Chris Brown Responds to Rihanna Interview: 'Details Should Remain Private'

Singer Chris Brown remains quiet about details surrounding his assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna, but he is speaking out about her recent decision to go public.

"While I respect Rihanna's right to discuss the specific events of [the assault], I maintain my position that all of the details should remain a private matter between us," he said in the statement. "I do appreciate her support and wish her the best. I am extremely sorry for what I did, and I accept accountability for my actions. At this point, I am taking the proper steps to learn about me and grow from my mistakes. I only hope that others in similar situations can learn from our experience as well. Abuse of any kind is always wrong. The rest I leave it to God."

In the interview, which aired on ABC's '20/20' on Friday (Nov. 6), Rihanna recounted the altercation offering riveting details of the incident. "He had no soul in his eyes, just blank," she said. "He was clearly blacked out. There was no person when I looked at him. I was battered. I was bleeding. I was swollen in the face. There was no way of me getting home. My next option was to get out of the car and walk-start walking-in a gown and a bloody face."



Brown's interview with MTV aired the same night as Rihanna's. During the sit-down he stated that the altercation is still hard to comprehend. "What was I thinking? What is wrong with you? That's what I was thinking with myself," he said. "So that's my thoughts basically now. It's just ... how do we get past it? How do you, Chris, go from point 'A' to point 'B'? How do you learn from your mistake, turn it into a positive, help other people with your situation and at the end of the day become the person that you want to be."



Brown admitted he was unsure of how the public perceived him. "I think my fans still love me, but you have those people that don't support you, so it's kind of 50/50 to me. I'm human. I show my feelings on my sleeve like everybody else. It hurts. I'm still a young dude so I haven't gotten past this stage of being able to take people's negative comments and things."

The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to felony assault and received five years probation, six months community labor and must complete a domestic violence class.
