The New Boyz were forced to cancel their free concert in Flint, Michigan on Sunday, Nov. 8 after the crowd got unruly. The California-based hip-hop duo, best known for their homemade single 'You're a Jerk,' had just begun their performance when police shut it down due to the incessant scuffles. The free concert was booked at the Genesee Valley Center -- a bad idea given the mall's capacity was set at 300 people, yet a reported 1500 showed up. The large crowd began lining up at noon for the 4PM concert, and eventually spilled out into other areas of the shopping center causing shoving and fighting.
"It was crazy," said an eyewitness. "Some kids started fighting, while others kept getting on stage." According to a mall employee fans rushed the stage, throwing speakers into the crowd; one person was stabbed with a pen and another victim suffered a seizure. Although local police were dispatched to the location, they have not yet revealed details on the victims.
The duo were also scheduled to sign autographs but were chased by fans after fleeing the stage. Group member Ben J briefly addressed the incident via his Twitter page. "Our mall performance in Flint was so big it was on the news just now," he wrote. No word yet on if the two plan to reschedule their performance.
