Troubled rapper DMX can't win. In May, the MC was released from America's notorious "Tent City" prison in Maricopa County, Ariz., and could potentially be headed back to the slammer for owing over $1.5 million in back taxes. According to public records uncovered by the Detroit News, DMX and his wife owe $442,869 in property value to the IRS from delinquent tax payments. The lien was filed in New York on Jan. 2 of this year, and is not the first time the IRS has come a knockin' at X's door.
In September of 2005 the IRS filed a $370,460 lien against the couple, also in New York, and two tax warrants have also made their way to public records -- one for $8,343 filed in Feb. 15, 2007 and another for $44,357 filed in March of 2006. This brings DMX's tally in the state of New York alone to $866,029. Arizona is a different story. The rapper also owes the IRS for income earned while living there in 2002, 2003 and 2005, totaling $663,553. A lien was filed against the rapper in Arizona in 2007.
The tax debts justify DMX's recent attempt to head to the boxing ring in a much publicized MMA style fight. However, the rapper pulled out and was replaced by Coolio after his safety could not be assured. We're hoping he gets his life together.
