Game Defends Dr. Dre's 'Detox' Odyssey

With 'Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2' already hitting best-of lists for 2009, there's only one "most anticipated for a decade" hip-hop record remaining: Dr. Dre's 'Detox.' In excusing the delay, Game has come to his on-again producer's defense and cited his track record through the years as proof that the long-delayed epic will be more than worth the wait.

"Man, I can't even describe [2001]... I would just say it's a classic West Coast album but it was world-renowned and it had an international appeal, like who from where didn't f--- with that album," Game asked in an interview with XXL Magazine. "With '2001,' he just went back to do what he do best man and that's just trying to create the sun, moon, stars and Earth in seven days, man. The thing that stands out to me about '2001' is the same thing that stood out to me about 'The Chronic' -- Dre is a perfectionist and no matter when he coughs up an album, B, they be exactly what you need. I know it seem like he be taking forever with these albums, but if you think about the time that passed between the 'The Chronic' and '2001,' I think 'Detox' is just about due. So it's not about him just making us wait, it's his format."

There's something to be said for the kind of perfectionism that Dre consistently brings to the table. Even in stray production duties, Dre's beats still bang with scientific precision. He doesn't seem like the type to pretend like his working for years and then throw something together haphazardly.

"[I'm] only [working] on my album that I've been working on for the last ten years, that's it [laughs]," Dre said in an interview with ABC last month. "The 'Detox' record. Hopefully I'll get it done by the end of this year and you'll hear it next year. Motivation and other things getting in the way, that's it."
