Chris Brown Says He 'Never Hit a Girlfriend' Before Rihanna

Singer Chris Brown is opening up about his anger issues and past with domestic violence in a new interview, stating that Rihanna was the first girlfriend he was ever violent with. "I never had a problem with anger," the Virginia native told ABC anchor Robin Roberts during a '20/20' interview last Friday (Dec. 4). "No domestic violence with any of my past girlfriends, I never was that kind of person. I look at it like 'how could I be that person.'"

In a snippet which aired on ABC's 'Good Morning America,' Brown responded to Rihanna's interview with Diana Sawyer, which aired on the same show last month. "I was wrong for what I did," he said of Rihanna's comment that before striking her, he had "no soul had in his eyes." Although he did not say whether or not he agreed with his ex's perception he did admit wrongdoing. "I will definitely say that I look past or look over. It's something that's very touchy and I'm really sorry for what went down."

Brown also acknowledged the public's tainted opinion of the sincerity of his apologies, stating that smiling, or responding "nonchalantly" may have played a part in what he sees as a misunderstanding. "I'm human. Really I'm hurting inside and it's devastating." The 'Run It' singer's interview was hit with controversy as some skeptics wondered why the network allowed Brown the opportunity to tell his side of the story plus perform tracks from his new album. As a result, ABC later nixed Brown's live performance portion of the interview. Brown's third album 'Graffiti' hit stores yesterday.
