Keyshia Cole is no stranger to airing her personal life. Cole delved into reality television with the 2006 BET docu-soap 'Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is,' which climaxed when the R&B singer visited her mother in a Malibu prison. In recent months, as news of an engagement to Cleveland Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson surfaced, Cole kept quiet. But after the pregnant singer's mother spoke out on her behalf, making statements Keyshia claims are wholly false, Cole is setting the record straight. During a radio interview with Atlanta station V100, Cole's mother, Frankie Lons, revealed that her daughter was already married to Gibson. Lons claimed her daughter rushed the ceremony to avoid having a child out-of-wedlock. As a result of her mother's fabricated remarks, the songstress has ceased all communication with her, as well as her two sisters.
"It's not a secret that I haven't been in contact with my mother, Frankie, and my sisters, Neffe and Elite, and I never wanted to air out our differences to the public," Keyshia explained in an official statement. "While I won't go into detail here, I find it necessary to let [the fans] know I decided to stop communication with them because I was at a point in my life where I needed serenity and peace to move forward."
That state of calm is a result of her current pregnancy and relationship with Gibson. Despite Frankie's accusations that her daughter and the star basketball player wed, Keyshia has not said her vows just yet. "My plate is very full; I have a new baby coming, we are planning our wedding and I am working in the studio on a new album that I am close to completing," Keyshia discloses. "The stress that my family is giving me with their constant false reports is not healthy and it's not what I need at this time in my life."
The Oakland, Calif.-born singer went on to state that the only people in her life that can confirm or deny events are her fiancé Gibson and her publicist, Tresa Sanders.
