Soul singer Teddy Pendergrass passed away Wednesday (Jan. 13) at Bryn Mawr Hospital in the suburbs of Philadelphia. According to his son, Teddy Pendergrass II, the singer underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had "a difficult recovery."On March 18,1982, Pendergrass survived a car accident, but was left paralyzed from the waist down. He went on to release over a dozen albums after the accident, but in 2006 the Gospel singer-turned-drummer-turned-R&B crooner announced his retirement from the music industry. Pendergrass was 59.
