Kelis to PETA: Fur is Warm as Hell and Feels Glorious

Never one to shy away from voicing her opinion, Kelis has written a candid response to animal rights organization PETA, after founder Ingrid Newkirk sent the 'Acapella' singer a personalized letter denouncing her choice to wear fur.

In the letter, written on her official MySpace page, Kelis is unapologetic about clothing herself in luxurious minks and chinchillas. "It's not just the look of fur," she writes. "It's warm as hell and feels glorious, ever rubbed faux fur on your body? Nothing luxurious about that." Kelis states that the PETA letter proceeded to name artists and designers who don't wear real fur, which she voiced was no concern of hers. "Great!" she wrote. "More for me! I don't judge them, don't judge me."

While the new mother admitted she would never wear endangered species such as orangutan or polar bear, she feels the use of minks and chinchilla to make furs are appropriate considering their reputation as vermin. "Quite honestly [they] are rodents and if weren't in the form of a coat I would demand they be put to death anyway," Kelis explains.

...except people don't wear or eat other people....you're entitled to YOUR view on animals but I think these type of "points" are downright excrutiating and forceful in trying to get others to think what YOU think.

I love this article. You go girl. I love animals, always get mine from rescue, in fact I love life, even my neighbor who is a major dick head I respect for being another living soul BUT I also agree in "human rights' and if there are beautiful fur coats that feel good and look good, to me it is the same as buying a leather designer bag. Somewhere in this mix is a happy medium and PETA never sees that side. They are a radical group of eco terrorists. KARMA is within your soul, are you a good person? do you aproach isues with love truth tolerance & prayer. It is not do I wear fur. It is whether or not you make a positive impact on this world and we all have our own idea of how that works.

THETRUTH

Mink and Chinchilla, like ANY living being, feel pain, hunger, fear, etc. Ever try looking at an undercover video on the Chinese Fur Factories, or Canadian baby Harp Seal hunts, or any "farm factories"? Not even a PETA video, but one done by an individual, or a local or national television crew. Try it sometime, and see if these animals lived "good" lives. If you were knocked semi-conscious, and skinned alive feeling EVERY cell of excruciating pain, then thrown in a pile with other dead and dying animals, still able to lift your head and blink your eyes, does that justify your selfishness as well as make you feel it is/was humane? Replace the lives and deaths of any animal, with a human. Picture whatever happens, happening to a human. NO living being, deserves to suffer like that. Karma is real. What goes around, comes around...

Good for her. Somebody needs to stand some ground against the PETA bullies. She is absolutely right. Most fur coats are made from rodents that multiply exponentially. As long as they are treated humanely (and they are--most ranched animals, contrary to what PETA tells you, are treated well and actually live longer in captivity than they would in the wild), I see not problem with it. Besides, most women look great in the right fur coat, and fake fur is not an ecological win either.
