Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco has announced plans to perform at a fundraiser for Chicago Urban League Chief Cheryle Jackson, a democratic candidate running for the Senate seat vacated by President Obama.Upon Obama's presidential victory, the vacant seat was held by former Governor Rod Blagojevich, who was then removed from office for attempting to sell the seat. Cheryle Jackson was Blagojevich's press secretary, but left his office to run the Chicago Urban League.
"I am running to fight for our families and to help our communities all around the state of Illinois prosper, particularly at a time of such tough economic declines," Jackson said. "The people of Illinois deserve an honest, independent broker and a bold advocate in Congress who is a problem solver and not another politician."
Lupe, who recently climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, is scheduled to perform at the fundraiser on Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Shrine in Chicago. The primary takes place on Feb. 2.
