Popular singer/producer Akon has reportedly signed Sarkodie, one of the biggest rappers in Ghana, to his Konvict Music imprint. Sarkodie, who is known as Ghana's fastest MC, caught the ear of Konvict clothing brand creative director Babs, who then passed the music on to Akon. "He moved me from my chair, my own chair," Babs said of Sarkodie. The artist will release his second album, 'Rapaholic,' through Konvict, who have also signed Sway, a UK rapper of Ghanaian origins.
After releasing the track 'Oh Africa' with Keri Hilson, which also featured emerging African musicians, Akon will scour the continent for more talent. He has launched Konvict Music Africa, a label that will be operating out of South Africa and Nigeria.
In the meantime, Akon will host a new radio show on London's Capital FM. The show is scheduled to air Saturday nights on 95.8 FM, starting this coming Saturday, Feb. 13.
"Akon has worked with legendary performers such as Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston and Eminem and his brand-new show on Capital will be awesome," Program Director Paul Jackson said.
