In addition to his upcoming prison sentence -- which was recently postponed until March 10 due to dental complications -- Lil Wayne can now add a new lawsuit to his list of legal woes. The New Orleans rapper has been hit with a $2.5 million dollar copyright infringement suit for his the single 'Mrs. Officer,' from his platinum-selling album 'Tha Carter III.'The Royalty Network filed the lawsuit against Lil Wayne and Cash Money records in a Manhattan Federal Court yesterday (Feb. 17) under claims that 'Mrs. Officer' was produced by Darius "Deezle" Harrison, who therefore owns rights to the song. But according to the paperwork, Cash Money records ceased payment for the song last year when allegations emerged that Harrison had copied parts of the record from a song called 'Crush,' by a little known artist named Sky. Harrison is currently seeking to claim all profits made from the song, including music videos, ring tones and streaming media.
Harrison, a fellow New Orleans native also has production credits for six additional songs on 'Tha Carter III,' and has worked with several other high profile artists including Yung Joc and Kanye West. The single, 'Mrs. Officer,' was an instant hit, peaking at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot Rap Tracks chart after its debut.
